Please follow these rules while on the training site, so it can be a safe, fun, and enjoyable experience for everyone.

HEALTH AND VACCINATION

All age appropriate vaccinations must be up-to-date.

Please notify the instructor of any physical or health problems relative to handlers or pets.

Owners must notify 4Paws if their dog is showing any signs of illness. Dogs displaying lethargy, vomiting or diarrhea will not be permitted in class and should be seen by a veterinarian. Failure to follow this rule may result in a $75.00 fee for cleaning and disinfecting the training center.

Females in season are not permitted in class.

EQUIPMENT

All dogs must have non-metal collars and 6-foot leashes. Halti/Gentle Leader-style halters and Sense-ation, Sense-ible/Sense-ation and Easy-Walk harnesses are acceptable. Other equipment is not permitted without pre-approval by instructor.

CLASS CONDUCT

Rough handling of dogs will not be tolerated. Physical punishment or handling, jerking of the leash, and other methods not consistent with the lessons being taught at 4Paws will result in removal from class without credit or refund.

All dogs must stay separated and on a leash. No greeting or other contact is allowed with other dogs at any time.

All dog owners will be responsible for cleaning up after their pet. Please come prepared!

No phone calls or texting during class. Instructions will not be repeated for students who do not show proper phone/text ettiquette.

ATTENDANCE

Attendance at the first class of a course is required. Please note: if you do not make prior arrangements and miss the first class, you will not be able to attend the remaining classes and a refund will not be issued.

If you miss one class during a course, you will receive a handout of the class exercises; but unfortunately, make-up classes are not available. We discourage missing more than one class in a six-week course.

Friends and family members may only attend in your place if they have been given complete instruction on all previous exercises and methods. Instructors are not able to take extra time away from other students to teach substitute handlers previous lessons.

Students unable to complete the course may be able to join a later class if openings are available; however no guarantees are given and students may receive less than 24 hours' notice regarding available openings.

FAMILIES

Because having and training a dog is a family affair, we encourage family members to come to class with the handler. However, because some dogs are frightened of children, it is important that families follow these rules:

  • Children must be under parental control at all times. No running or yelling.

  • Children must be at least 10 years of age and physically capable of restraining and handling dog in order to participate in class exercises (subject to instructor discretion).

  • Children may not pet or handle other dogs in class
MULTIPLE DOGS

For safety reasons, we require each dog to have their own handler over the age of 18.

BARKING

All dogs bark and a certain amount is to be expected. However, dogs that bark excessively in class may need individual training sessions to address the cause of the barking .

If you are uncertain or are having trouble with barking at home or on walks, please contact us to schedule a class behavior evaluation at no charge before registering.

Violations of any of the above rules may result in removal from the training site at the discretion of 4Paws University. In such cases, no refunds will be given. If you have any questions regarding these rules, please feel free to contact us.
